A Swedish study found artificial intelligence in breast cancer screening cut later cancer diagnoses by 12%.
Researchers studied 100,000 women undergoing routine mammography between 2021 and 2022.
Women received either AI-supported screening or standard double readings by radiologists.
AI helped flag high-risk cases and reduced radiologist workload.
The AI group showed higher early detection rates and fewer aggressive cancers.
Researchers published the findings in The Lancet.
Experts say AI should support, not replace, radiologists and needs careful monitoring.
