Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United side for becoming “too comfortable” after they let victory slip away in a 3-3 draw at Tottenham.
United led for much of the match through Bryan Mbeumo’s first-half strike, but second-half goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game around before Matthijs de Ligt rescued a point with a 96th-minute header.
While the result extended United’s unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was frustrated with his team’s complacency.
“We were comfortable in the game but I think we should do better, be more aggressive,” Amorim said. “We felt too comfortable during the game. The space was there, the three points were there, but in one play everything can change. We need to expect that and do better.”
The United boss also confirmed concerns over a knee injury to Benjamin Šeško, who came off the bench in the second half: “We think he has a problem but let’s see.”
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank defended his own substitutions after fans booed when Xavi Simons was replaced by Tel, who went on to score the equaliser. Frank praised his team’s spirit and the impact of subs Wilson Odobert and Destiny Udogie, both of whom provided assists.
“Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank said. “Every decision I make with substitutions is to win the game — and Tel did well, great moment for him.”
Spurs’ home winless run in the league now stretches back to August, but Frank insisted they are heading in the right direction:
“We were so close to winning it. Every other day we win that game. It was a good performance against a good Manchester United team that’s definitely in flow.”
