A shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach killed ten people, including one gunman, and injured more than a dozen others. A Hanukkah event was underway at the beach when the attack began. Authorities continue investigating to identify the motive behind the violence.

New South Wales Police confirmed ten fatalities following the shooting on Sunday at the iconic beach. Police said one suspected gunman died at the scene. Officers said a second suspected gunman remains in critical condition.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos and panic along the beachfront. Several people reported seeing more than a dozen victims lying injured on the ground. Eyewitnesses said blood covered large sections of the area after the shooting.

Leaders respond as emergency crews secure the area

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese posted a public statement on X following the attack. He expressed condolences to the victims and their families. He urged the public to follow police directions and remain cautious.

Albanese described the scenes at Bondi as shocking and deeply distressing. He said police and emergency crews were working to save lives. He said his thoughts were with everyone affected by the incident.

The prime minister said federal authorities were coordinating with New South Wales Police. He said officials would release updates as investigators confirmed more details. He again urged people nearby to follow official police guidance.

Warnings issued as videos capture moments of panic

New South Wales Police issued a public warning around 7:30 p.m. local time. Officers urged people to take shelter or avoid Bondi Beach entirely. Police acted after receiving reports of a possible active shooting.

Videos shared on social media showed crowds running from the beach. Footage captured gunshots and police sirens sounding in the background. Other videos showed widespread panic among beachgoers.

About 2,000 people attended the Hanukkah event at the beach. Authorities have not confirmed whether the attackers targeted the gathering. Investigators continue working to establish intent and motive.

Additional videos showed police detaining two suspects on a civilian bridge. Earlier footage appeared to show individuals firing from elevated positions. Eyewitnesses reported hearing more than 50 shots fired at people, vehicles, and nearby areas.
