Manchester City closed the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to four points after a commanding 3-0 victory over Liverpool, reaffirming their title credentials.
Despite Erling Haaland missing an early penalty, the Norwegian opened the scoring soon after with his 19th goal of the season. A deflected strike from Nico González just before half-time doubled City’s lead, before Jérémy Doku sealed the win with a superb curling effort.
Liverpool had a goal from Virgil van Dijk ruled out for offside in a controversial VAR call but were second best throughout, suffering their fourth straight away league defeat.
Doku was outstanding on the left flank, tormenting Liverpool’s defence and earning a standing ovation as City celebrated Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th game as a manager in style.
