Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank has said the club is not close to spending £100m on a single player, unlike Arsenal, who broke their transfer record to sign Declan Rice for £105m in 2023.
Spurs are undergoing major changes following Daniel Levy’s removal as chair and a new leadership structure being put in place by the Lewis family. While there are ambitions to grow the club and challenge for the Premier League, Frank believes big spending on one player is not imminent.
“I don’t think we are close to spending £100m, put it that way,” Frank said, although he admitted such a move could happen “in the next 50 years.”
Frank stressed the importance of time, strong processes and smart recruitment, arguing that success comes from developing players as well as investing wisely. He pointed to clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City as examples of teams that didn’t rely solely on massive individual transfer fees.
Tottenham recently received £100m in funding from the Lewis family, with more investment expected. Frank said the board has committed to long-term success and that he is confident they will support him in building a competitive team.
