Celtic are set to intensify talks with Wilfried Nancy this weekend as the Columbus Crew manager closes in on becoming the club’s next head coach.
The Scottish champions have informed the MLS side of their intentions, and any required compensation is not expected to pose an issue. Nancy is reportedly keen on the move, with Celtic aiming to have him in charge by next weekend’s trip to St Mirren, ending Martin O’Neill’s brief caretaker spell.
Nancy, who previously managed Montreal, guided Columbus Crew to seventh in the MLS Eastern Conference before exiting in the playoffs to FC Cincinnati.
Initially viewed as an outsider, the Frenchman now fits Celtic’s profile for a progressive, adaptable coach who can work within their transfer model.
Earlier candidates included Kieran McKenna, Robbie Keane, and Kjetil Knutsen, but head of football operations Paul Tisdale has identified Nancy as his top choice to succeed Brendan Rodgers, whose second spell ended in October.
