Juventus have dismissed head coach Igor Tudor following an eight-match winless run in all competitions, the club announced on Monday.
“Juventus FC announces that it has today relieved Igor Tudor of his duties as coach of the men’s first team, along with his staff,” read a club statement. Massimo Brambilla, coach of the reserve side, will take temporary charge ahead of Wednesday’s match against Udinese.
Tudor, appointed in March to replace Thiago Motta, became Juventus’s first foreign manager since Didier Deschamps in 2006–07. A former Juve defender, Tudor had led the club to a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification last season.
However, after a bright start to the current campaign with three straight wins, Juventus faltered, drawing five consecutive games before suffering defeats to Como, Real Madrid, and Lazio.
“I think we prepared for the match in the right way, but we’re still missing something,” Tudor said after Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Lazio.
The decision marks Juventus’s earliest managerial change in a season since 1969, when Luis Carniglia was replaced by Ercole Rabitti. The team now sits eighth in Serie A, six points behind leaders Napoli, and has gone four games without scoring.
