Manchester City delivered a dominant performance at the Etihad, overwhelming Manchester United 3–0 in a derby that firmly underlined their Women’s Super League title ambitions. Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealed a comprehensive win that keeps City four points clear at the top.
United, coming off a historic Champions League win over PSG, looked fatigued and disjointed. The defeat marked their second league loss in a row — something they hadn’t experienced since May 2024 — and leaves them seven points off the pace in the title race.
Marc Skinner admitted frustration after his side gifted City opportunities, saying: “We gave City those goals. It wasn’t like they dominated us — that’s the scary thing.” He stressed the need for reinforcements in the winter window to keep their campaign alive.
City, in contrast, were sharp, fresh and ruthless. Lauren Hemp, returning to the starting lineup after injury, tormented United down the flank. City’s attacking fluidity produced three goals in 21 first-half minutes, tearing apart what had been the league’s second-best defence.
Knaak headed City into the lead from a corner before Shaw bundled in a second after a flowing move. Hemp then struck from distance after a quick turnover to make it 3–0 before the break.
United created little in response and failed to register a shot on target. Jess Park hit the post in the second half, but it was far too late to shift the momentum.
City, who had not beaten top-four sides last season, now boast victories over both Arsenal and Manchester United — a strong marker of intent as the season approaches its halfway point.
